About this Location

USO Missouri supports MEPS in Kansas City and St. Louis. What is MEPS? MEPS stands for Military Entrance Processing Station, where new recruits go for in-processing. It is a Defense Department joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals who determine applicants’ physical qualifications, aptitude, and moral standards, as set by each branch of military service. What do recruits do at MEPS? They take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, get their physical exams, select their new job in the service, and officially swear the oath of enlistment. The entire process takes about two days, and processing starts early—some will wait for their ship-out date and others will embark to basic training immediately after their time at MEPS! There can be a long wait time too, so the USO is there with snacks and drinks to make it a little easier for our newest service members.

What a wonderful program for our proud young men and women just beginning their journey! I still have fond memories of the USO and the many Veterans and young folks we had the privilege to transport to their new destinations for Basic Training back from my TWA days! It was always such a pleasure being able to serve each and everyone of them throughout their leaving or returning home! Our families have been extremely blessed by and benefited from the support and exceptional and extraordinary care and services of the USO many times over as our nephews went through basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Thank you for your service and thank you to each and everyone of the volunteers for their support of this worthwhile, ongoing program!
